Aah, Italy, the City on Water. I remember watching "Chasing Liberty" and when I saw how beautiful Italy can be it came in second in my choice of dream destinations. I can only imagine... With its shimmering waters at night and the lovely, sweet and romantic music filling the back ground as you walk the narrow streets of Venice, the sense of relaxation and ease begin and you can't do anything but enjoy the moment, the scene and the place itself.
Because of the land being surround by water, there are many bridges in Venice.
A Venetian bridge
The Rialto
This is the oldest bridge that spans the Grand Canal. It was originally made from wood, and the Venetian Republic decided to transform it into stone.
Below is the "Bridge of Sighs" it has a long history dating back from the 16th century. It is said that the bridge connects the old prisons to the interrogation room; and when prisoners are to be executed, they are to pass this bridge. It is called the "Bridge of Sighs" by Lord Bryon because it was said that the prisoners were to 'sigh' at the last sight of Venice.
According to legends, when lovers on a gondola pass under this bridge at sunset and kiss, they will be granted eternal love.
Maybe someday, when I meet or find that significant other, I dream of passing under the Bridge of Sighs, and we'll kiss exactly at sunset on our wedding day. :">
The Gondola is the means of transportation in Venice, Italy.
The Gondolier is the one who mans the gondola. Sometimes, he sings lovely melodies while rowing through the canals of Venice. Before, only men were in this profession, but now female boaters or as they prefer to be called gondoliera are starting too, the first being Giorgia Boscolo in 2010.
Aside from the Venetian bridges, beautiful gondolas and the lights that could be found in Italy, I want to see and enter
Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute
From afar, you could see its majestic stature in baroque-style architecture. I can see myself in a few years from now staring at it with dreamy eyes. Then, I will hear the chants and musical loveliness surrounding the entire church.
Because of the many things to see and experience in Italy, I really didn't know where to start writing at first. I just have so many places I want to visit in the future and many things to do but I guess one day won't cover it up.
After 3, 5 or 10 years, I hope to see myself in a gondola alone (or maybe not) and the gondolier will sing songs from his heart and I'll just sit there, smile and say, "I thought this will just forever be a dream, guess I was wrong."
Ciao~

First of all, Gondola is just seen in Venice. So it's not seen in any parts of Italy.
ReplyDeleteVenice is a very nice choice for first-time travelers to Italy. The place will really enchant you and make you fall in love at first sight.
I consider it as a whole package- food, tours, historical and cultural value, (and shopping) is excellent. The Tiramisu and Pasta in P. San Marco is definitely irresistible. Not to mention that the different historical and cultural monuments around the city is all worth it. Hope you can mention Burano and Murano next time. Both are islands, 40 mins (by boat) away from Venezia.
Nice taste! Travel soon! :D
Oooh~ thanks for telling me! I'll change that one word :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I travel, I will definitely include it here with stories and experiences! ^.^
